Equipment Basics
You do not need to invest in a full line-up of equipment to get started, but we do have some required basic safety equipment to help keep you safe on the ice. Please see below for a few must-haves for practice!
US Speedskating 101

US Speedskating Membership
US Speedskating membership is required for all athletes on the ice, regardless of competitive goals. To join, please visit their Membership page and follow instructions for your membership level. For any USS membership questions, please email membership@usspeedskating.org.
Helmet
Required. Per US Speedskating rules and regulations, cut-proof neck guards are required to be worn at all times on ice.

Neck Guard

Gloves

Not Permitted
There are a few types of skates that would be dangerous for you and your teammates on the ice. For this reason, the following are not permitted on the ice at our practices:
Figure skates
Nordic skates
Clap skates
