About
There are two different disciplines in speedskating: short track and long track. Both disciplines are supported by our parent organization, US Speedskating.
UVSC hosts weekly short track ice and practices, and we also travel for both short track and long track camps and competitions.
Short Track
Skated indoors, short track speedskating is typically done on a hockey rink. A great crossover sport for cycling, Nordic skiing, and rowing, short track speedskating can serve as a complementary club activity during shoulder seasons for Upper Valley athletes.
Our club practices weekly at the Wendell A. Barwood Arena in Hartford, VT.
Long Track
Skated both indoors and outdoors, long track speedskating is typically done on clap-style skates. Ice surfaces are 400-meter tracks (called ovals), similar to a running track.
The two closest ovals to UVSC are the Lake Placid Olympic Oval in Lake Placid, NY (3 hours away), and Centre de Glaces Intact Assurance Oval in Quebec, Canada (4.5 hours away).
