Upper Valley Speedskating Club
Our Mission
We are committed to growing our sport in the Connecticut River Valley region, developing character through our shared values, and, above all else - having fun on the ice! We believe in teaching strength and resilience through sport, and we bring this mentality to each practice and competition.
The Upper Valley Speedskating Club is open to all ages and abilities. Our coaches have experience working with all levels of athletes - get to know our team below!
Our Coaches
Dan Weinstein - Coach, President
Head coach Dan Weinstein has won multiple multiple World championships, as well as individual and relay medals at several US Championships, and he won the men's overall title at the 2000 U.S. Short Track Speedskating Championships. He was the youngest US competitor at the 1998 Nagano Japan Olympic games at age 17, and competed again at the 2002 Salt Lake City games.
Amelia Ihlo - Coach, Vice President
Amelia began speedskating at the age of 10 in Connecticut, and skated recreationally for both the Connecticut and Bay State Speedskating Clubs. She has coached several sports, including rock climbing, Nordic skiing, and both long- and short-track speedskating.
Matthew Chen - Coach, Board Member
Matthew Chen has been skating since the age of 5 in Southern California, starting national speedskating competitions at age 10. Matthew consistently ranked in the top five at Nationals in both long track and short track speedskating, competing in World Cup Qualifier events where the top skaters in the U.S. compete for a spot on the World Cup team. Matthew spent summers training with Olympic level coaches in the U.S., China, and Korea. Matthew served as a volunteer coach for the Santa Clarita Speedskating Club, where he taught skaters ages 4-13. Matthew graduated Class of 2021 from Dartmouth College, and currently attends Dartmouth Medical School.
